A POPULAR Stourbridge Police Community Support Officer was treated to a trip to Number 10 Downing Street for a reception celebrating community figures.
Gavin Else, a well-known face around Stourbridge, was invited to Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s abode on January 14 to talk about his life on the beat as a PCSO.
Based at Stourbridge Police Station - retired firefighter Gavin, aged 60, has been in post since the roles were introduced nearly five years ago.
He said: “I felt privileged to be nominated to attend the reception at Number 10. It was a wonderful experience - especially listening to what other people had done in their own communities.”
Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho, who nominated Gavin for the visit, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Gavin to Westminster. “He’s a very important figure in the Stourbridge community and I am pleased that Number 10 has recognised the contribution he makes to life in Stourbridge.”
Gavin added: “Being a PCSO has been great. I’ve met a lot of nice people in and around the town. I ride a mountain bike every day - and it’s been a lovely extension to my working life, getting out and doing my bit to help people.”
