A YOUNG Stourbridge magician is getting set to appear for judges in a nationwide competition for top illusionists.

James Milner from The House of Magic, Brook Street, is through to the finals of The Magic Circle’s Young Magician of The Year event which will be held in London in July.

James, aged 17, won through to the finals by performing illusions including a unique vanishing skateboard.

The competition is open to young magicians from around the UK and the winner collects a first prize of four years free membership of the Magic Circle when they reach the age of 18.

Since its introduction in 1961, the competition has produced many winners who have gone on to successful careers in show business.

The first winner, Johnny Hart, appeared at the London Palladium and subsequently presented his magic in Las Vegas while 1981 winner Andrew O’Connor went on to produce and present many TV shows.
