Business group pledges to keep Sophie's memory alive

TOWN traders hope the memory of tragic Stourbridge bank worker Sophie Hill-Jones will live on through a new business and fundraising group.

Stourbridge businessman Gary Lennon and a group of business associates have set up The Business Benefit group to help develop relationships between company bosses and to support The Friends of Sophie Hill-Jones, which was set up in memory of the 24-year-old “party princess” who died after a road smash in May 2008.

Gary, who runs ‘Ideas 2 Reality’ - which aims to bring business ideas to fruition, said: “We plan to put on events to help businesses - and it is our intention that we support the The Friends of Sophie Hill-Jones and the sort of things that appealed to Sophie so that we can carry on her name.”

The Friends raises money for the Midlands Air Ambulance, which flew Sophie to hospital following her horrific accident on the M42.

Business Benefit leaders decided to support the cause after Sophie’s friend and work colleague Keith Stokes became a member of their newly-formed organisation, which aims to share business information and knowledge.

They have since held a number of seminar events at HSBC in Stourbridge, where Sophie had worked as a mortgage specialist for just over a year, and have to date raised around £1,000.
