ARTISTIC Quarry Bank schoolgirl Mab Collins picked up a prestigious gong from the MP after impressing the judges in a Christmas card competition to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Big Ben.
The eight-year-old Mount Pleasant Primary pupil was voted one of the regional winners of the art competition organised by Parliament.
To celebrate her achievement - Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho presented the year four youngster with a certificate and winners’ badge that only the top entries in the competition received.
Mab’s eye-catching image of the famous London landmark will now be showcased at the House of Commons along with other winning entries from around the country.
Lynda said: “The Big Ben 150th anniversary card competition judges had a tough time picking from all of Stourbridge’s wonderful entries. But the card Mab designed really chimed with the judges. I was delighted to be able to present her with this prestigious prize.”
Mount Pleasant Primary School headteacher Jo Harthill added: “All the children produced great entries for the Big Ben Christmas Card competition. But to have one of our pupils recognised as a regional winner is just great. We’re all really proud of Mab’s achievement.”
Pupils from schools across Stourbridge entered the West Midlands section of the nationwide competition.
