Stourbridge MP's message on climate change

STOURBRIDGE MP Lynda Waltho has pledged to send ministers a message on climate change before a global summit in December.

Campaigners from Christian Aid in Stourbridge met Mrs Waltho on Monday October 12 to hammer home their call for Prime Minister Gordon Brown to deliver a fair deal at a UN summit in Copenhagen.

The meeting was part of the charity’s global Great Persuasion campaign taking place across the country during October.

The initiative aims to lobby 2,000 parliamentarians in more than 50 countries to help tackle global poverty and climate change.

Lynda Waltho said: “Christian Aid, along with other major NGOs plays a vital role in demonstrating the link between climate change and world poverty to politicians.

“I’ve heard their concerns and will make sure they’re raised with Ed Miliband and Douglas Alexander, as they prepare for the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen.”

Christian Aid campaigners posed with Mrs Waltho and a symbolic Big Ben Clock to emphasise the countdown to the summit.

The group called for Lynda to urge the European Union to commit to at least 40 per cent carbon emission reductions by 2020 and ensure that developing countries get all the money and technology they need to cut emissions and adapt to climate change.

Stourbridge campaigner, Ian Reay, said: “We thank Lynda for meeting with us and for taking this matter forward within government.

“Having announced that he will lead the UK delegation at the climate change talks in Copenhagen, Gordon Brown must push for a fair deal for the world’s poorest people who are suffering first and worst from the effects of the changing climate.”

“We thank Lynda for meeting with us and for taking this matter forward within government".

How nice, don't these people realise that the lovely Linda doesn't express views of the people, she follows government policy, as in the case of the IT hacker who is about to be sentenced in US.

How cosy. These poor people think it will actually do them some good talking to her and lovely Linda gets yet another photo opportunity in the Stourbridge News.

Well she had better make the most of it because she won't be around post-May.

What is this? The grumpy old so and so slot? Seems to me that a group with a good cause asked to see their MP and she duly met them and gave them her support. There are many other local MP's who it is impossible to see! (i.e our MP in Bromsgrove!) Give her a breakl!

Anything for a vote. She can no more push climate change up the international agenda than I can.
