RETAIL business bosses were commended for their efforts to cut crime in the borough’s high streets and shopping centres.
Westfield’s Merry Hill Shopping Centre and Stourbridge store Wilkinson were among the winners at the Dudley Borough Business Crime Partnership Crime Awards 2009.
They were presented with their accolades at the partnership’s annual general meeting at The Talbot Hotel in Stourbridge on Tuesday November 17.
The Mike Holder Award, set up in memory of the partnerhip’s former chairman, was awarded to Westfield for its proactive approach to slashing crime and anti-social behaviour at Merry Hill and neighbouring premises in Brierley Hill.
The Partnership Award, recognising the company or organisation that has dramatically curbed crime, went to Stourbridge retailer Wilkinson for its work in reducing stock loss and passing on high quality information on known offenders.
The Chairman’s Award, granted for continuous support of the partnership’s aims, was presented to London & Cambridge Properties, who own Dudley’s Churchill Shopping Centre.
Mac Griffith, chairman of Dudley Borough Business Crime Partnership, congratulated all of the award winners, adding: said “The standard of crime prevention work undertaken by our members is uniformly high, so making a distinction between them has been extraordinarily difficult.”
Dudley Borough Business Crime Partnership formed in June 2003 and works in partnership with businesses, Dudley Council, West Midlands Police and other public authorities to cut crime and anti-social behaviour at retail centres across the borough.
