Councillor launches latest playground upgrades

YOUNGSTERS across the region can play-up in style after the completion of the latest phase of a £2.6m playgrounds upgrade.

Dudley Council launched the new facilities as part of the Play Pathfinder scheme which has already seen 12 sites receive major improvements.

The latest revamps include larger play facilities, a youth shelter, football goal and basketball hoop at Hawbush Road, Brierley Hill and improvements to the play area at Stevens Park in Wollescote.

Scotts Road in Stourbridge got a new play area and fencing while a new play area with wheelchair accessible roundabout has been built at Lapwood Avenue in Kingswinford.

Cllr David Stanley, Dudley cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “I am delighted the first few parks have been completed under phase two and I am sure young people and families in those areas will see the benefits soon enough.”

The three-year long upgrade scheme began in Dudley in April 2008 after the Dudley Play Strategy was selected by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to be one of 15 national pathfinders.
