New training centre aims to help jobseekers

A NEW training centre aims to boost the employment prospects of teenaged jobseekers in Lye and surrounding areas.

Kidderminster based employment support charity Beacon Employment has opened a new base in Hayes Lane aims at those aged 18 plus seeking jobs or wanting to improve their skills.

The centre - which is being run in partnership with Government backed job-seeking company a4e - will also provide a focal point for employers searching for new staff.

Comprising a state-of-the-art IT suite where jobseekers can hone their numeracy, literacy and IT skills plus meeting rooms for new employers to meet with potential staff - the new office threw open its doors on Friday January 15 to Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho and other guests.

The Labour MP said afterwards: “For lots of different reasons, people need a helping hand when looking for a new job. It’s really encouraging to see Beacon’s new facility which provides a positive environment for them to get this.

“The Government’s offering help to people from day one of unemployment which is aimed at avoiding the mistake of Thatcher’s Government in the ‘80s when people were left to rot.

“Beacon, in partnership with the Government, offers help to people, some of whom require specialist support, to prove their worth to potential employers.

“I know, from speaking to local business leaders that this kind of partnership working, between jobseekers, the Government and employment support organisations, gives them confidence in the quality of employees they can take on.

“This new centre is truly a beacon of good practice when it comes to finding jobs for people.”
