Hospital attack man so drunk he couldn't punch properly

A MAN tried to punch a member of staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital but was so drunk he could not aim properly, a court was told.

Stuart Bryce, aged 55, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at the Worcester hospital, saying he was so drunk he thought he was at the railway station.

Bryce, appearing at Worcester Magistrates Court, said he had been bought two pints of bitter, two double vodkas and a bottle of vodka by a man he barely knew.

He said the man had given him a lift into Worcester before abandoning him outside the hospital.

Police were called to the A&E department at about 3.15pm on Wednesday following reports of a man acting in a disorderly manner in the waiting area.

They were told that Bryce had been seen punching the air around the reception area in an uncontrollable manner. When he was approached by a member of hospital staff, he tried to punch them but was so drunk he could not aim properly.

When police arrived they escorted Bryce out of the building, and he swore at them and urinated twice in the entrance to the building. When an officer approached him he became aggressive and was arrested.

Bryce, of Fletcher Street, Lye, said he had accepted a lift from the man who he had met once before because he offered him a job and somewhere to live on his caravan park in Worcester.

After plying him with alcohol, Bryce, defending himself, said the man dumped him on the side of the road and he had no idea where he was.

He said: “I was so drunk I didn’t know where I was, I thought I was at the railway station.

“I would never have gone into the hospital and upset people, that’s the last thing I would have ever done.”

Bryce, who is currently unemployed and receives Job Seekers Allowance, was fined £150 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
