THE controversial study into the future of the borough glass collection could be delayed after an unexpected site proposal.

Dudley Council was anticipating phase two of a feasibility study on moving the collection, from Kingswinford’s Broadfield House Glass Museum to the Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley, to be finished later this month.

The study, by L&R Consulting, may not now be completed until August after it was expanded to consider a new plan, involving the former Stuart Crystal site on Camp Hill.

Council chiefs would not confirm the new location in the study but it is widely believed the site’s owners approached the authority with a proposal to build a museum on the land.

Cllr Les Jones, Dudley Council’s deputy leader, says a location in the area would be very suitable but previous enquires had failed to find an affordable site.

Cllr Jones said: “The right thing to do is to look at the options available to us, if we were able to acquire a site within the Glass Quarter it would be a no brainer.

“Our priority is to get the best deal we can.”
