A TV psychic is set to be buried alive for seven days in the grounds of the notoriously haunted Dudley Castle.

Ian Lawman is tackling eveyone’s worst fear by being buried alive in a coffin, six foot underground, in the name of charity.

The week-long endurance test starts on April 1, when Ian will be lowered into the ground at 9pm, with the hole then filled in with two tonnes of soil.

The specially built coffin has been built with a glass panel at the head, so visitors can see the 40 year-old throughout his challenge.

There will also be a live web feed streaming all week direct from inside the box, enabling the medium to share his thoughts and experiences with fans. A special evening of paranormal activities has been organised by Fright Nights to coincide with the burial, including ghost hunts, live music, clairvoyants, mediums and street performers.

And activities will be held throughout the week, as well as an event to mark the live lifting at the end of the challenge on April 8.

Ian, from Scunthorpe, said he came up with the challenge, because he “wanted to be as close to death as possible without actually dying.”

He chose Dudley Castle because of its “theatrical qualities” as well as its vivid and rich history. Ian said: “I'm going to be buried six foot in the ground, so I will just be feet away from bones of soldiers which will make it much more horrific.

“It is going to be quite hard, but I will be doing a lot of meditation. I'm really excited, but nervous as well as it could go wrong. The more research I do, the more I read about others that failed. Coffins have collapsed and two people have even died.”

Ian is hoping to raise £10,000 for The Blue Lamp Foundation – the charity set up by Pc David Rathband who was shot by Raoul Moat last year.

Tickets for the Buried Alive festival are £10 and are available at frightnights.co.uk/ To sponsor Ian visit justgiving.com/ianlawman
