HEARTBROKEN family and friends will say their last goodbyes this weekend to Stourbridge teenager Tyler Bradley who has lost his bravely-fought battle with cancer.

The popular 17-year-old passed away on January 8 after fighting bone cancer for almost four years.

The brave teen from Penfields, who attended Halesowen College, had undergone extensive treatment including chemotherapy and the replacement of both knee joints in a bid to beat the deadly disease - known as osteosarcoma - which he was diagnosed with on his 14th birthday.

Tyler’s devastated dad Giles Logan said: “Tyler was an incredibly brave and inspirational teenager.

“Throughout his illness he never complained and was always thinking of others. Indeed, he would sometimes meet with newly diagnosed children in hospital to offer hope and encouragement to them.

“Tyler was always more concerned with how others were feeling more than himself.

“He managed to cram so much into his short life never letting his illness hold him back. He was quite the jetsetter and had been to Germany, Holland, France, Sardinia, Spain, Turkey and several other countries.

“He also went sailing several times, including with yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur, as well as abseiling, rock climbing, quad biking, canoeing and all manner of activities that belied his illness.”

Last summer he was invited to climb aboard the 48-foot Scarlet Oyster to sail from Liverpool to Holyhead as part of the Ellen MacArthur Skandia Round Britain Voyage of Discovery, which saw young cancer sufferers taken on an unfortgettable ocean journey around the British Isles.

A pupil at Elmfield School in Oldswinford until last year, Tyler inspired both classmates and teachers with his courageous fight against his illness - prompting them to shave their heads as a gesture of support when his hair fell out as a result of his treatment.

A spokesman for the school said: “Our thoughts are with him and his family.”

Tyler is survived by his mum and dad, brothers Kes and Che and sisters Poppy, Millie and Maisy.

His funeral will be held at Westhope Green Burial Ground, Westhope Estate, near the Craven Arms, Shropshire, this Saturday (January 22) at midday.

The family have requested no flowers - just donations to Camp Quality UK which provides life-changing holidays for poorly youngsters.
