A KINGSWINFORD power lifting champion hopes to raise money for cancer sufferers by bringing a national event for musclemen and women to the borough.

Pat Reeves, who has multiple British and world titles to her name, is organising the event - the National Single Lift BDFPA Championships - at Dudley College, The Broadway, Dudley, on Sunday February 19.

Proceeds will go to Dudley’s White House Cancer Support Centre which nutritionist and cancer survivor Pat from Bromley Lane says has helped to support a number of her patients.

More than 100 athletes from across the UK are expected to attend the national event, run by the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association, which will include three categories - squat, bench press and dead lift.

Many will be hoping to set British and world records - including Pat herself who, despite battling back from a torn rotator cuff, says she is on target to break her own world deadlift record.

The pint-sized world deadlift record holder, who is general secretary of the BDFPA, said: “This will be the first time The National Single Lift Championships have been held in the West Midlands. We have a great and exciting event to look forward to.”

The all-day event, which starts at 10am, will qualify lifters for the World Single Lift Power-lifting Championships in Autun,Burgundy, France, in June, 2012.

Admission for spectators is £2, payable on the door.
