YOUNGSTERS at Ridgewood High School in Wollaston hope to raise the roof this week with their production of The Wiz.
The show, adapted from the ever-popular Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, is based on the 1970s film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
Penned by William F Brown and featuring music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, it tells the story of kindergarten teacher Dorothy who is transported to the strange land of Oz where the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion join her in a quest to defeat wicked witch Evillene and seek out a powerful wizard who can help her find her way back home.
More than 200 students at the Park Road West School are due to perform the show to family and friends tonight (Tuesday), tomorrow (Wednesday) and on Thursday February 9.
Producer, Steven Davis, the school’s head of drama, said: “This is another excellent show with an enormous cast of talented young people. They have all been working enthusiastically for months now and their hard work is bound to thrill and entertain audiences.”
The production, which is expected to be a sell-out, follows last year’s successful show, A Night at the Musicals.
