RESIDENTS across the borough are invited to create Wikipedia articles about some of the hidden treasures at the Black Country Living Museum.

And to help inspire history fans, the Tipton Road museum is holding a Wikipedia day on Saturday February 18, which will include a curator led tour of the museum’s collections.

Museum curators and an expert Wikipedian, Andy Mabbett, will also be on hand to offer practical advice and support throughout the day and as a reward for all the volunteers’ hard work, complimentary fish and chips will be served.

Anyone interested in attending must have knowledge of using Wikipedia and will be required to bring their own laptop with power cable.

A digital camera will also be necessary if volunteers wish to add their own images to their online articles.

Jo Moody, senior curator at Black Country Living Museum, said: “The Wikipedia event is a great opportunity to find out more about the objects at the museum and to tell their stories.

“We are all very excited about the chance to work with local Wikipedia editors and to bring more of the Black Country’s history to life.”
