A STOURBRIDGE mental health charity has issued a list of top survival tips for singletons dreading Valentine’s Day.
Dudley Mind, which works to promote good mental health and support those with problems, has come up with ten suggestions those not feeling loved up or romantic can put into action to help them survive February 14.
Prue Warne, spokeswoman for the charity, said: “For all those not in any relationship the weeks running up to Valentine’s Day, and the day itself, represents a very pressured time when it seems the entire rest of the world is happy and successful in love – and only you are not.”
So to help those feeling lonely or fed-up of the marketing slush - the charity, based at the Mary Stevens Centre in Hagley Road, Oldswinford, has put together a survival kit of suggestions to help ease the pressure.
1)Invite friends to go for an ‘anti-valentines’ night out on the town
2)Watch comedy or funny film on DVD
3)Invite friends round for a games evening
4)Send a letter, card, email or text to an old friend
5)Write down a list of the qualities you like about yourself
6)Find a new cake recipe and bake a cake for a friend or acquaintance
7)Wear your favourite outfit or colour
8)Go out and do something active such as swimming or walking etc
9)Take stock of all the people in your life who you like and like you
10)Dance around to loud music
The list was developed using the fivewaystowellbeing.org website.
