DUDLEY Museum and Art Gallery has added an historic dolls house to its collection.

The toy, which used to be housed in the foyer of Stourbridge library has been relocated to the St James’s Road facility following redevelopment work to the Crown Centre.

The dolls house is now in pride of place in the Brooke Robinson Collection in the upstairs gallery, which contains personal items, furniture and pictures of Brooke Robinson – a former MP for Dudley in the late Victorian period.

Very little is known about the house, after it was discovered in a bedroom in Wollescote Hall, but it displays a scaled down version of a very grand late Victorian house.

It was displayed for many years in the council house at Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge, before being relocated to the Crown Centre in 1985 and now stands inside a special casing to enable young visitors to get a better look inside.

Councillor Tracy Wood, cabinet member for environment and culture said: “The dolls house is a beautiful artefact and has always been a popular draw for children.

“Thanks to the Brooke Robinson trustees we have been able to keep it on display for the next generation and the new display case we’ve built means that we should be able to keep it in good condition for the future.”
