RESIDENTS with learning disabilities can enjoy a range of new books now available at borough libraries.

All the libraries now have a selection of ‘Bag Books’ which are free to borrow for individuals and groups.

The tactile and multi-sensory books are designed for children, teenagers and adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities and stories are told through actions and emotions rather than the usual picture and word format and are designed to improve communication skills.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: “It would be wonderful to see local people and groups coming into their local library to borrow these new multi-sensory books which I hope will be beneficial and improve the quality of lives through the enjoyment of reading.

“Staff are proud that they are able to offer these new books and are eager to support people to help make best use of them.”
