GLASS creations by Stourbridge artists are bringing sparkle to a Worcestershire arboretum as part of the International Festival of Glass.

Glass Afloat - a temporary floating sculpture exhibition - can be seen at Bodenham Arboretum, Wolverley, until August 27.

Pieces by acclaimed Stourbridge glass artists Charlotte Hughes-Martin and Keith Brocklehurst feature in the unusual display which is adding shimmer to the arboretum’s 22 foot deep lake.

Work by students from Amblecote’s Ruskin College is also included in the exhibition along with items created by top UK artists including Matt Durran, Sharon McJannet, Laura McKinley, Jacque Pavlosky, Bob Thacker, Gemma Louise Truman, Chris Wood and Marie Worre Hastrop Holm.

Exhibits include glittering horses, mirrored spheres, giant tripods and a family of pond skaters.

Featuring blown, dichroic, slumped and coloured glass - the exhibition highlights the diverse ways in which glass can be used outdoors to enhance the natural landscape and take craft beyond the gallery walls.

Festival director Natasha George said: “The reflections in and off the water and the light (which is ever-changing) that plays on each of the sculptures creates a truly magical scene. We hope this will be the first of many more festival exhibitions at Bodenham Arboretum.”

The innovative event has been organised as part of Stourbridge’s prestigious biennial glass festival which this year celebrates 400 years of glassmaking in Stourbridge and 50 years of studio glassmaking worldwide.
