A ZUMBATHON in memory of Kingswinford teenager Becky Palmer who died of a brain tumour looks to have raised thousands of pounds for charity.

With help from Zumba instructor Suzanne Richardson, Louise Palmer organised the event to remember her only daughter Becky on what would have been her 21st birthday.

The 19-year-old former Crestwood student lost her battle for life in December 2010 - less than a year after finding out she had the condition.

Louise, from Ragees Road, took up Zumba to keep herself busy after Becky’s death and she decided to organise the three-hour Zumbathon to try and turn a poignant day into something positive.

The 47-year-old specialist epilepsy nurse said: “It went off really well.

“It was a bit emotional but it was the best thing I could have done for the day under the circumstances.

“I was really overwhelmed by the amount of people that came and took part and the amount of effort everybody made.”

She said she hopes to collect in around £3,000 for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust as a result of the event, held at The Kingswinford School on Saturday August 4.
