FREE family fun events celebrating the best of British will be held at Broadfield House Glass Museum and the Red House Glass Cone this month.

Broadfield House, in Compton Drive, Kingswinford, will be hosting a Punch and Judy show and children’s attractions including a sand pit on Saturday August 25 from 10am to 4pm.

There will also be glassmaking demonstrations, a football penalty shoot out, storytelling sessions, sports competitions, hook-a-duck games, an RNLI information stand and a small animal display, courtesy of Dudley Zoo.

Children and adults can also take their bikes along along to see a bike doctor who will give cycles a free health check.

Young visitors can also have a go at bat box making and other craft activities being laid on by the council’s Juniors at Museums team for which there is a small charge.

A brass band will also be performing British theme tunes on the day and traditional fish and chips, home-made ice cream and cup cakes will also be available.

Meanwhile on Monday August 27 a free Birthday Bash will be held at Wordsley’s Red House Glass Cone from 10am to 4pm.

To celebrate ten years as a visitor attraction the cone in Camp Hill is organising a party with a vintage flavour, taking visitors back to the Victorian period when the setting was a busy industrial site.

There will be costumed re-enactors including Queen Victoria and her lady-in-waiting, historical guided tours and period games plus craft activities, a trail, live entertainment and glassmaking demonstrations.

Councillor Tracy Wood, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “These free family fun days look set to go down a treat.”

The events form part of Stourbridge’s International Festival of Glass, running from Friday August 24 to Monday August 27.

Admission to both sites is free.
