10:06am Tuesday 4th September 2012 in News
A MAN suffered a head injury and a suspected broken ankle after he fell into a canal in Wordsley.
The male, in his 40s, slipped down a four metre grass bank before entering the water near Balmoral Road at just before 10pm last night (Monday September 3).
Fire crews from Brierley Hill, Woodgate Valley and Perry Barr attended the scene along with paramedics and members of the West Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
HART officers in dry suits climbed down the bank using ladders and ropes provided by fire crews and rescued the man, who was conscious and standing in the water.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man's injuries were not thought to be serious.
