One dead after car smash horror near Stourbridge

THE main road between Stourbridge and Kidderminster was blocked this morning by a crash which left a young woman dead.

The crash happened at about 5.45am this morning (Tuesday September 18) on the A449 between Cookley and Caunsall.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and the road was closed in both directions.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a small car that had been in collision with a small van and had come to rest partly on the road, partly on the pavement.

“The car had suffered very significant damage. A tree and a lamppost were damaged nearby.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that there was nothing that could be done to save the woman in the car and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the van was out of the vehicle on arrival and was uninjured. There was relatively little damage to his vehicle."
