Stourbridge man set for oar-some charity challenge

A STOURBRIDGE man has taken on the oar-some challenge of getting to France by bike and boat.
Wayne Martin, from Brook Street, set out to ride around 200 miles to Dover where he will join a crew of charity fundraisers to row across the English Channel.
Father-of-four Wayne, aged 47, and fellow cyclist Andy Wright set off from the Britannia Sports Bar in Wollaston on Monday (September 17) to start their quest to raise £3,000 for the Balls to Cancer charity.
Fitness fanatic Wayne said: "After two heart attacks 18 months ago I started to do events for British Heart Foundation.
"Balls to Cancer asked me if I wanted to do a channel row as a fund raiser for them. Always up for a challenge both myself and Andy agreed but thought we would spice it up a bit and cycle down to Dover first.
"This is my biggest challenge yet. It has taken a lot of time and organising but is really worth it for a great charity and exciting event."
The team plan to cross the channel tomorrow (Wednesday September 19) or on Thursday or Friday in the event of bad weather.
