A NEW director for children’s services has been appointed at Dudley Council.

Jane Porter has taught in schools across the borough, been a school inspector and an Ofsted registered inspector.

She has held numerous assistant director posts at the council, including for the school improvement service and the early years, youth and education service and also taken on the role of acting director.

Her appointment follows the retirement of former director Mark Wyatt, who took over the role in 2009.

Miss Porter said she would “continue to work to ensure high quality outcomes for all children and young people in the borough and make sure they and their families are well supported”.

She added: “I will be looking to develop links with partners, including the voluntary sector and health to help make this happen.

“I work with a very committed and talented team and I look forward to supporting them to achieve the very best for the children of the borough.”

Councillor Tim Crumpton, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “I’m thrilled Jane Porter has agreed to take up the role of children’s services director at Dudley.

“She has worked with the council for many years and, in these challenging times her wealth of experience is a great asset to us as we continue to work to deliver the best possible services to all children in the borough.”
