Luke Walker's family fly out to Crete for murder trial

THE family of Brierley Hill man Luke Walker, who is charged with murdering his girlfriend in Crete, have flown out to the holiday island for the long-awaited trial which they hope will prove his innocence.

With less than two weeks to go before the hearing gets underway, Luke’s father Patrick and brother Ryan have joined the accused barman and his mum Lindy on the Greek island to await the court case that will determine his fate.

Luke has strenuously denied killing his sweetheart of three years, Chelsea Hyndman from Yorkshire, who died of ruptured internal organs which Greek authorities claim were caused by a blow to the abdomen.

His dad Patrick, who has shown unwavering support for Luke since his arrest in May 2010, said: “We’re just waiting now but we’re not looking forward to it.

“The trial will definitely start on October 16 and 17 but we’ve found out there are going to be strikes here over the massive pay cuts affecting public sector workers - so that could delay things.

“We’re just spending time with Luke now. It’s the first time we’ve been together as a family for 18 months.

“It’s nice but obviously it’s on everybody’s mind all the time.

“We’ve still got a few bits and bobs to do but we’re near enough there - and witnesses and friends will be starting to arrive from October 12.”

Meanwhile friends and supporters back home in Brierley Hill are continuing to rally round and will be holding a fundraiser at the The Black Horse pub in Delph Road on Sunday October 7.
