Former TV Likely Lad - Rodney Bewes
TV comedy legend Rodney Bewes of the Likely Lads fame has been forced to cancel his latest appearance at Stourbridge Town Hall due to poor ticket sales – it has emerged.
The 74-year-old star – who became a household name in the 1970s and 80s when the hit TV sitcom aired - was due to bring his acclaimed one-man show A Boy Growing Up to town tomorrow (Friday October 5).
The production, which sees the TV funnyman reading a selection of short Dylan Thomas stories in his own inimitable style, premiered at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Rodney has been taking it on the road to venues across the country which he says “have a good vibe”.
The star, who is celebrating 60 years as an actor this year, received rave reviews for the new show which follows his previous one-man outings - Three Men in a Boat, which he performed in Stourbridge in 2010, and Diary of a Nobody.
One reviewer described it as “charming, chaotic and immensely entertaining” and dubbed it “vintage Bewes” but according to Dudley Council leisure bosses “ticket sales were slow” this time round in Stourbridge – a town the former Likely Lad admits to being quite fond of.
