CHURCH groups said it with flowers to help Halesowen Baptists celebrate their 75th anniversary.

More than 30 arrangements filled Carters Lane Baptist Church for its first ever three day festival, which finished on Tuesday.

Organised by Pam Smith and Wendy Button, church secretary Phil Turley described it as a “great success” which will be repeated in the future.

Groups represented included the boys’ and girls’ brigade, singing and prayer groups, line dancing and exercise classes.

Mr Turley said: “The arrangements reflected what they do and it was fascinating to see them and they were created by all age ranges.”

He also thanked Quinton Methodist Church, St Peter’s Church, Lapal, and St John’s Parish Church, Halesowen, for contributing.

Although originally founded in 1787, the present church in Lapal was built by Baptist builders the Harper Brothers in 1939.

Members of the family came from as far away as Sheffield to join in the anniversary celebrations, which also included special services, a garden party fun day and a coffee morning.
