TWO big-hearted Halesowen fundraisers are gearing up for the largest charity cycle ride ever to be held in Birmingham to raise money for a cancer charity.

Clinton Field has challenged himself for the 100-mile Birmingham Bikeathon on Sunday (September 21) while Sharon Maguire has signed up for to cycle the 26-mile route in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The avid cyclist has already raised £500 for the charity and which is close to his heart, having watched his partner Natalie, aged 33, survive Hodgkin lymphoma and his cousin’s six-year-old daughter fight her own battle with leukaemia.

Mr Field, aged 39, of Firth Park Crescent, said: “I've ridden in some great charity rides before but the Birmingham Bikeathon will be particularly special as my family has been so closely affected by blood cancer.”

Mrs Maquire, aged 33, of Clivedon Way, decided to take part in memory of her uncle Don Chesworth who died from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2011 just six weeks after he was diagnosed and a week after the birth of her daughter Sophie.

Cyclists can sign up on the day from 7am and choose from one of three routes covering 26 miles, 52 miles or 100 miles starting and finishing in Centenary Square.
