A BRIERLEY Hill businessman knows no bounds when it comes to raising money for charity.

Over the past seven years, Mike Brown has raised in the region of £100,000 for Mary Stevens Hospice - and the cash keep on coming.

All the money has been raised through Mr Brown's company, Dreamland Beds, which has been operating in Mill Street for the past 38 years.

He explained: "When we deliver, take away or assemble a bed, we ask our customers to make a donation to the hospice. We deliver all over the Midlands, which as helped raise such a large amount of money.

"As a result of the cash we've collected over the years, we've been able to supply the hospice with new beds brought in from Belgium, provided three new vans, fitted out three of their shops and transformed the former Mark and Moody shop in Stourbridge High Street to include a library and cafe."

Mr Brown recently supplied the hospice with another £25,000, some of which will go towards the new peace room, which is currently under construction at its Hagley Road headquarters.

The rest of the cash will go towards equipping the hospice with new beds.

He continued: "It's important for people to see what their money is doing. When we tell people where the money is going, we find they are very happy to donate.

"It also helps to highlight the profile of the hospice and hopefully encourage other people to contribute as well, because the hospice needs to raise a considerable amount of money every year.

"It's very satisfying to be able to help, it's a fantastic set-up and the staff are marvellous."

Simon Henwood, managing director of Mary Stevens Hospice Trading, said: "Mike Brown has supported our work continuously over the last seven to eight years, contributing over £100,000 towards our work during that time.

"Dreamland Beds is very close to our Brierley Hill warehouse and we have built up close professional links working together.

"Initially we had an arrangement through our trading company for him to sponsor our vans and we would help redistribute the good quality beds Dreamland were picking up.

"Whilst this has continued, in recent times he has contributed towards direct patient care at the hospice itself through beds and equipment. He is a true local philanthropist."

Matron Claire Towns added: "We are extremely grateful to Mike and all his customers for their continued support of the hospice.

"The peace room is a fantastic new addition to the hospice that will provide patients and relatives with a private space for quiet reflection."

Mr Brown doesn't restrict his support to the hospice, he also raises funds for Sunfield Children's Home in Clent and Midlands Air Ambulance.
