VETERAN reporter Nick Pullen will be taking giant strides (plenty of them) in order to swell funds for the News Group Well of Life appeal.

He will be rubbing shoulders with hundreds of walking enthusiasts from across the borough by taking part in the Dudley Trail this Sunday (May 3).

Determined not to do things by half, Pullen plans to tackle the full 26-mile course.

The 61-year-old, a former long distance runner, said: "I was looking to do a challenge for charity and the Well of Life appeal was just perfect.

"I'm under no illusions of the task ahead and encouraged by the fact my wife doesn't think I've got any chance of completing it!

"So I'm looking to strike a blow for the Over-60's and ask that people will support me by digging deep into their pockets for the Well of Life appeal at the same time."

The Dudley Trail attracts over 2,000 entrants every year and offers several walks around many of the borough's many hidden beauty and heritage spots.

Walkers will have the choice of covering distances from six, nine, 12, 18 or 26 miles, the objective being to get more people involved in physical activity.

They will be setting off from Dudley Leisure Centre at designated times from 8am until noon and the event is open to everyone who wants to take part.

Although entries can be taken on the day, organisers are encouraging people to register in advance by going online at lhttp://www.dudley.gov.uk/see-and-do/himley-hall/events/dudley-trail-2015/

Alternatively entry forms are available at Dudley Council leisure centres and libraries or by calling Himley Hall on 01384 817817.

Anyone wishing to sponsor Nick can do so by popping into the News Group offices - St John's House, on St John's Road, Stourbridge.
