A SEDGLEY man caught with more than £3,000 worth of cocaine and £1,664 in cash by police has been jailed.

When officers raided a property in the town they found 25-year-old Akeem Wynter with drug dealing paraphernalia, said Paul Farrow, prosecuting.

He said there were traces of cocaine on a set of kitchen scales while other smaller amounts of the controlled drug were found in different rooms.

There were also a number of text messages on a mobile telephone that related to drug dealing, Mr Farrow told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Wynter, of Winterly Gardens, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply and he was told by Judge Nicholas Webb it was clear he was dealing to get drugs to fuel his own habit.

"You played a significant role in a supply chain," the judge told Wynter, adding, “You were motivated by the promise of drugs for yourself.”

Jonathan Barker, defending, said Wynter, a father-of-two, had split up with his partner and after becoming depressed he had turned to drugs.

He was then involved in a road accident that left him badly injured and he again resorted to the use of cocaine to help ease the problems he faced.

The judge jailed him for three years four months and said it was an aggravating feature of the case that Wynter had a number of previous convictions involving the possession and supply of controlled drugs.
