An Oldbury boxing promoter is dining at the top table of the sport again after pulling off a deal with one of the biggest names in the business.

Marcus Anderson-Hitchen, whose family's boxing exploits date back to the 1940s in Oldbury, is now working with Dennis Hobson and has several big fight nights in the pipeline.

Mr Anderson-Hitchen has been appointed head of commercial business at Hobson Promotions who in decades in the sport has worked with Ricky Hatton, Clinton Woods and David Haye.

Mr Anderson-Hitchen, aged 45, added: "I promoted my first show alongside Dennis.

"He has always been a great guidance to me in my promotional career which is why I have decided to assist him."

Mr Anderson-Hitchen is the grandfather was renowned Oldbury boxer, trainer and manager Lesley Anderson and uncle was Kenny Cooper who fought for England in the Commonwealth Games and celebrated locally for his victory over Ken Buchannan in the ABA championships.

Mr Anderson-Hitchen's last foray into the fight game was several promotions under the It's-A-Bout-Boxing banner.

The former Warley High School pupil said: "He loved the Its-A-Bout-Boxing TV show and thinks I have brought entertainment back into boxing."

Next week Ross Burkinshaw is fighting for the WBO International Title in Rotherham and Mr Anderson-Hitchen is working on the fight.

He said: "The show next week is on Spike TV channel 160 directly after the Amir Khan fight it should be a great night for British boxing."

Dennis Hobson said: "I am delighted to have Marcus on the team as he will open up new opportunities on the domestic and international business.

"Marcus has fantastic marketing and advertising skills and boxing needs more dynamic individuals like him to capture and hold the public's imagination."

James Russell formerly of Frank Maloney Promotions is also part of the Hobson team working in the event management arm of the business.

Mr Anderson-Hitchen added: "The beauty of this deal is that I can continue with My "It's A-Bout-Boxing shows which are hosted by Big Joe Egan and could soon be aired in America, I am just finalising details.

"We are currently planning our next big Birmingham show, we are also planning shows in Stoke, Liverpool, London and Newcastle."
