DIABETICS from across Dudley borough are being urged to help kick start a support group for those with the condition.

Jacqui Wilmore, a retired social worker from Stourbridge, is one of a number of people who have helped organise the inaugural meeting of the Dudley Diabetes UK group.

The first meeting will take place on Thursday, July 9, between 7pm and 9pm at the Bar Room, in Brierley Hill Civic Hall.

However, members are asking diabetics living across the borough to join and help make the group a success.

Jacqui said: “We want it to be an educational and social group, as you can learn so much more about diabetes by being around and speaking to others who also have the condition.

“People who get diagnosed are often only given the basic facts and don’t know about the little things that can really make a difference.

“The meeting will also let people know about the good work that Diabetes UK does for those who have the condition.”

The meeting will be used to form a committee consisting of chairman, secretary and treasurer, as well as enabling attendees to input ways to move the group forward.

Jacqui added: “We also need a venue for future group meetings, so if anyone knows of any free venues around the borough where we could meet, please let us know.”

Refreshments of tea and coffee will available on the night, and for more information contact Roy Bustin on 01922 614500, or email midlands@diabetes.org.uk
