A KATES Hill man who was armed with a file when he charged at a Lye shopkeeper has been jailed for 18 months.

Anthony Hyde "acted on impulse" when he ran at Mohammed Tabazar, who was in a relationship with his ex-partner Liah, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Mr Tabazar, who worked in a shop in High Street, Lye, was told by Hyde, “Well- she’s married to me,” before he took the large file from his rucksack.

Hyde then ran towards Mr Tabazar while he was holding the weapon but he was then headbutted by his potential victim, who managed to disarm him after a struggle.

The 31-year-old of Cypress Road admitted getting in touch with his ex-partner in breach of a restraining order and also making threats with an offensive weapon.

Delroy Henry, defending, said the father-of-two had acted on impulse and he accepted it had been “reckless and foolhardy behaviour”.

He told the court that Hyde accepted there was no excuse for his actions on a day when his judgement had been impaired by alcohol.

Mr Henry said: "He is old enough to know better and he accepts he must have put this other man in fear for his safety.

"He has now been in touch with Alcoholics Anonymous to try and resolve his drink problem.”

Judge Nicholas Webb made a fresh five year restraining order forbidding Hyde from contacting his former partner and told him: “Carrying a weapon can lead to very serious trouble.

"You are fortunate it did not happen here.”
