YOUNG people across the borough are getting set to take part in a debate later this week to mark Safer Internet Day.

Six Dudley borough schools are will discuss the implications of using apps and playing games if under the recommended age restriction.

Organised by Dudley Council’s community safety partnership, safe & sound, the debate will be held in the council chamber on Friday (February 12).

The event is linked to today’s (February 9) Safer Internet Day, which this year is themed ‘play your part for a better internet’.

Safer Internet Day aims to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Councillor Gaye Partridge, cabinet member for community safety, said: “This is a really important subject and the debate is a great way to encourage children and young people to think about e-safety.

“We all have a role to play in making the internet a safe place for children and young people in our borough and it’s important we all take some responsibility for keeping them safe online.”
