THE Dudley (DY) postcode has landed a spot in the top quarter of the National Lottery’s new league of luck – making it officially one of the luckiest places to live.

In total, 117 players living in the DY postcode area have won a major prize of £50,000 or more on The National Lottery in the last ten years – ranking the region 25th out of the UK’s 121 postcode areas for high tier wins per head of player population.

Since The National Lottery launched, 28 millionaires have been made in Dudley – the equivalent of one a year ¬¬– and 237 top tier prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked by players in the DY postcode.

Lucky winners from the Dudley borough include the 15-strong Old Star pub syndicate from Brierley Hill who took home £1m in June 2010, Kingswinford grandmother Brenda Portch who scooped £1.4m in October 2006 and Wordsley bricklaying pals Alf Cole and John Radford who netted £5.4m in 2003.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Dudley has enjoyed a good share of wins over the years and we hope it continues to stay lucky.

“There are now a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires across the country and with more than six new millionaires made every week there is likely to be another local winner made soon.”

The area has also benefitted from money raised by The National Lottery.

In 2015, 75 grants worth more than £4million were distributed to lottery funded projects in the Dudley region.
