A CARELESS Quarry Bank driver who killed a young man when he ploughed his car into a wall in Netherton has been warned he could be spending time in prison.

Jamie Wharton, aged 31, admitted causing the death of 23-year-old Timothy Pearson on June 3, 2014, by driving without due care and attention.

Mr Pearson had been a front seat passenger in a Nissan driven by Wharton when it crashed into a wall in St Peters Road.

Wharton, of Birch Coppice, had denied a charge of causing death by dangerous driving and Sally Hancox, prosecuting, said that after careful consideration they had made the decision to accept that plea.

She told Wolverhampton Crown Court there was no suggestion that the Nissan car being driven by Wharton had mechanical problems.

The vehicle, she said, was "crablike" as it moved sideways across the road before hitting the perimeter wall of a house in the road.

It was the view of the Crown, added Miss Hancox, that the lesser charge should be put to Wharton on the basis of all the available evidence.

Judge John Wait said that in every case where there was a loss of life it was clear the tragedy continued to affect the loved ones and family of the deceased.

And the death of Mr Pearson , more than two years ago, showed he had been "irreplaceable to those who loved him".

He said it was important for everyone to know that very careful consideration had been given to all the evidence in a case that had now gone on for a very long time.

The judge said he was satisfied the Crown Prosecution Service and the police had carried out a full investigation into all aspects of the case before making their carefully considered decision.

It was important the matter was brought to a close, said the judge sooner rather than later.

Wharton was remanded on bail for the preparation of pre-sentence and medical reports and it expected the case against him will be finalised on Friday (October 28).

The judge ruled his disqualification from driving should begin immediately and on the subject of a prison sentence he concluded: "I can say nothing now to say that will not occur."
