PEOPLE are being encouraged to get out and about and clear up the borough this spring.

The Great British Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, will be rolled out for the first time across the UK next month and Dudley Council will support those who want to get involved by picking up litter in streets, parks and green spaces.

Volunteers will be given free refuse sacks and will be able to loan litter pickers, gloves, high visibility vests and other equipment at no cost.

The council will collect and dispose of any bagged waste resulting from the litter picks.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Great British Spring Clean and we are asking groups, individuals and organisations to come along and play their part.

“We are extremely lucky to have a dedicated band of volunteers who already work with us to organise regular community litter picks in our borough and I hope that this campaign will encourage even more people to get involved.

“We take littering and fly tipping very seriously and I would remind residents that they can report perpetrators of this thoughtless crime to Dudley Council Plus.”
