LIFE on the Homefront during World War Two is being recreated at Haden Hill House Museum in Cradley Heath this May Day Bank Holiday.

The historic house was used to home evacuees and families whose houses were bombed during WW2.

Museums services manager Jane Hanney said: "Older visitors have told us about celebration that took place in the park at the end of the war."

The Life on the Homefront event on Bank Holiday Monday will run from 12pm to 4pm.

Visitor services officer Alison Hyatt said: "The site will come alive with costumed historical interpreters and old vehicles, there will be a uniform display and a chance for visitors to learn about rationing and taste some wartime food.

"There will be some great live music out in the park with Eureka Jazz to get you jumping and jiving or just something to watch and enjoy while you enjoy a picnic on the lawn.

"For younger visitors there will be children’s entertainment and Punch and Judy with Ron Popple as well as wartime craft activities, quizzes and trails."

It will also be a first chance to see our new evacuee’s bedroom display in the Old Hall.

Mrs Hanney added: "It should be a great day out for all ages with loads to see and do in the houses and in the park, so come along and enjoy."

The event is free although there will be a small charge for some activities. Refreshments will be available in the tearoom.
