THE borough's St George's Day celebrations at Dudley Zoo have been hailed a roaring success.

Dudley Council and Dudley Zoological Gardens teamed up to host the annual festivities in honour of England's patron saint yesterday (Sunday April 23).

Thousands of visitors enjoyed entertainment laid on in the zoo grounds including medieval re-enactments, dragon puppets, stilt walkers, children’s entertainer Dippy, history talks, ghost tours, facepainting and crafts.

Extra talks and feeds at the penguin and sea lion enclosures were also organised for families to enjoy.

Councillor Mohammed Hanif, Mayor of Dudley, said: “For the second year running we teamed up with Dudley Zoo, which has done a great job of making the celebrations for St George’s Day really enjoyable for families."

Dudley Zoo director Derek Grove added: “This year again proved hugely popular with over twice as many visitors coming specifically for the event and they were joined by our regular day visitors who stayed later to make the most of the festivities."

People who have photos the celebrations are invited to share them on the council’s flickr site www.flickr.com/groups/dudley-borough-share-and-promote-it/
