FOLLOWING the tragic death of their son, who was just three-days-old when he passed away a few months ago, a couple are holding a charity fun day in his memory.

Noah Theodore Swales died on May 21 from bacterial meningitis, but in honouring his short life, parents Vicky Simmons and Dan Swales will host an event at Lapal Primary School in Halesowen on Saturday (September 23).

The free family event, which will run at the Priory Road school from 10.30am until 4.30pm, will feature a range of events and activities for all ages, including entertainment, inflatable fun, face painting, crafts, stalls, prize raffles, and refreshments.

Vicky said: “I find explaining our circumstance upsetting but important, which is why – despite being very private people – we have been so public with our story, loss and the need to do something positive, not only for the community but in order to raise money for such an important charity that means so much to us.”

For more information about the event, or to read the family’s story, visit www.facebook.com/NoahTheodoreSwales.

The couple are hoping to raise funds for 4Louis, a charity which provides support to those who have suffered a stillbirth or neonatal death, including providing memory boxes to parents, donating cold cots to hospitals and creating beautiful spaces for families to grieve.

Vicky added: “We cannot speak highly enough of this charity and want to help them to continue to help others.

“We would like to be able give other families the opportunity to receive such a beautiful memory box like we did at a time when they can't think about the importance of locks of hair or handprints and all the other items within.

“4Louis gave us something so precious that we will treasure forever and will help us to keeps Noah's memory alive and celebrate his life with our family and other children.”

Some of the events taking place at the fun day – which will have a small charge – include a competition to see who can set the fastest Mario Kart Wii time of the day, while craft stalls will be offering kids the chance to personalise their own pencil cases and glitter tattoos, and there will also be – weather permitting – a laser tag arena and a bungee run.

Raffle prizes include two tickets to West Bromwich Albion v Watford, an Amazon fire 7 tablet, a sweet hamper and signed copies of Giovanna and Tom Fletcher’s books.
