A MAN suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on Stourbridge ring road at lunchtime.

Ambulances flooded the scene outside the former Stourbridge Police Station building in New Road, while an air ambulance was seen circling the town centre.

An elderly gentleman was seen with blood on his head while he was being treated by paramedics, while Rev Fr Desmond Devenney from Our Lady and All Saints Church was also seen rushing over the ring road to the man.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed medics were called by the police just before 12.30pm to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.

An ambulance with two paramedic officers and an air ambulance from Cosford, with a trauma doctor on board, were sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Police officers were already on scene providing first aid treatment to the man following the collision.

"Upon assessment by ambulance staff, it became clear the man had sustained a serious head injury.

"The team worked quickly to provide trauma care before he was taken by ambulance on blue lights to the helicopter which had landed on a nearby rugby pitch.

"The man was then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and was said to be in a critical condition on arrival in A&E.”

One of the cars spotted at the incident belongs to Stourbridge taxi firm Falcon Taxis. The taxi firm confirmed they were aware of the incident but did not wish to comment as they “don’t know what has happened”.
