FOLLOWING a second incident of fly-tipping in as many weeks at the same Halesowen spot, a local councillor has appealed for preventive measures to be introduced.

Belle Vale councillor Simon Phipps has suggested CCTV should be installed in Shelah Road to catch offenders who have dumped rubbish in the same place as waste was left a few weeks before.

The most recent rubbish dumping appeared on the morning of March 10 and consisted of household worktops as well as part of a sofa.

Cllr Phipps said: “There is absolutely no need or excuse for people dumping their rubbish at the side of the road like this.

“Shelah Road has unfortunately become a target for this activity recently and they’ll carry on until something is done to catch offenders or prevent it from happening in the first place.

“In a month that is supposed to be ‘The Great British Spring Clean’, it is sad to see that some people treat our area in such a way.

“The council have been good in responding to this and getting the rubbished cleared away, but more needs to be done to stop this from happening over and over again.

“Something such as CCTV should be considered to try and achieve this.”

Fly-tipping can be reported to the council online at https://customer.dudley.gov.uk/gis-report/st-cleanse-grit/ or by mobile at www.lookinglocal.gov.uk/dudleycouncil.

Following a fly-tipping incident in Shelah Road in February, Cllr Karen Shakespeare said the council does ‘everything they can’ to catch the “criminals” who “do not care about the impact of their actions on the environment and the cost to the taxpayer”.

The cabinet member for environmental services added: “But we rely heavily on the community being the eyes and ears and reporting details to us, unless there are any identifying features where we can start an investigation.”
