PHILIP Dunne MP addressed NFU members from the Bridgnorth and Ludlow branches at an event held in the Gaskell Arms, Much Wenlock.

Conservative Mr Dunne, who represents the Ludlow constituency, said: “With a Shropshire MP now in charge of Defra I am confident that many of the issues confronting the farming industry have an experienced and sympathetic champion in charge.

“I know how hard last year’s harvest has been and what knock-on effects there are for farmers with feed and fuel prices so high. A number of points were raised, which I am taking up with Ministers at Defra.”

Edward Garratt, NFU secretary, said: “We were pleased to have the opportunity to talk to our MP. It is good to have someone who really understands the issues at the heart of Government and our members were not shy in raising their concerns with him.”
