SEVERN Trent has put videos on its website to advise people what to if they are victims of frozen or burst water pipes.

To help customers deal with emergencies caused by cold and wet weather, the water company has added the “How to...” videos to the website - go to stwater.co.uk/snow.

David Davies, who has 12 years experience of working in the cold weather, finding and fixing leaks for Severn Trent, said: “When water freezes within a pipe it expands, putting more pressure on the pipes and joints, often causing pipes to split or joints to pull apart.

“These new videos are great as they tell you how to find your stop tap, which is essential for damage limitation in an emergency. There is also a really useful video showing you what you can do if you do have frozen pipes.”

Severn Trent is only responsible for the water pipe in the street and footpath up to the boundary of a customer’s property. Anything inside the property boundary is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Mr Davies added: “If you do find that you have a problem and you’re unsure what to do, you will probably need to call a plumber. We have a list of approved plumbers on our website at stwater.co.uk/find-a-plumber.”
