THE sixth annual Great British Care Awards have been launched, marking the start of the search for unsung heroes across the UK who dedicate themselves to excellence in social care.

The awards, sponsored by Specsavers Healthcall, promote best practice within the home care and care homes sectors, while recognising individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field.

Last year saw a record number of entries for the awards, with winners receiving recognition from key industry players at the final at London's Grosvenor Hotel in June.

Jayne Rawlinson, Specsavers Healthcall director, said: "We’re delighted to be supporting the Great British Care Awards again this year. As providers of domiciliary care we’re regularly in contact with many of the remarkable individuals who dedicate their time and energy to ensuring high quality service in the sector, so having the opportunity to celebrate them is fantastic."

The annual awards support the Care Workers Charity, a registered charity for the care sector, involving current, former and retired care professionals.

As well as individuals, the awards also recognise teams and businesses which have had a positive influence on people’s lives.

Lisa Carr, director of the Great British Care Awards, said: "We continue to be overwhelmed by the passion from within our industry and are delighted to be opening the entries for the 2014 finals.

"The quality of entries from across the country has been incredible in the last few years and with Specsavers Healthcall on board to support the campaign, we’re hoping this year will be better than ever.

"The awards remain an ultimate celebration of success and help to raise the profile of social care in the UK."
