LEGAL eagles from Stourbridge got their birdies in a row for a golf day - attracting 40 players on the hottest day of the year.

Temperatures at the Wall James Chappell annual charity golf day soared to the high 30s C - but competitors slogged it out to help raise more than £700 for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

"It was ludicrously hot, which made for interesting conditions," said James Rousell, a partner at the firm of solicitors.

"We kept the players well supplied with drinks - but whereas they might normally have stopped for a pint of beer at the halfway pitstop, everybody was heading for water or other soft drinks."

The event, held on July 1 at Blackwell Golf Club in Bromsgrove, was won by the team from Forgeco, with Jaguar Lane Rover, Sun Life Medical and Butcher Woods close behind.

Philip Chapman, another partner at Wall James Chappell, said: "We are delighted with the amount raised through the corporate golf day.

"Our thanks go to the 40 golfers who entered, as well as Blackwell Golf Club for ensuring that the day ran smoothly, especially the bar staff at the half way house."
