How do you process information? Find out by reading the profiles below.

Remember, nobody is ever really just one thing. You’ll probably have one or two dominant styles, and display characteristics from other learning styles, too.

A: Word Smart (Linguistic)

Welcome to the world of wordsmiths!

You have a strong vocabulary and find it easy to express yourself in verbally and on paper.

You love learning, and using, new words both in speech and writing. You like playing with language, whether it’s with cheesy puns, riddles, rhymes or tongue twisters.

You’re a strong writer, articulate speaker and persuasive debater.  It’s probably safe to assume that you love to read.

B: Image Smart (Visual)

You like to organise your thoughts using colours, images and pretty much any visual stimulus.

You find yourself drawing out diagrams when explaining complex ideas. On the same scale, you find yourself doodling when others are explaining concepts to you.

You can see plans and outcomes in your mind’s eye and have good spacial awareness. This makes you a strong navigator and adept at reading maps.

C: Sound Smart (Musical/Auditory)

Music tends to evoke emotion in you. You have a good sense of pitch and rhythm and often find yourself humming or tapping along to music that is being played.

You find it easy to recognise different sounds and enjoy playing instruments. When remembering new facts, you often create little songs (you were probably one of the first to pick up the alphabet).

D: Motion Smart (Kinaesthetic)

‘Learn by doing’ is a phrase you’re all too familiar with. You enjoy hands-on type tasks, and definitely aren’t afraid of getting your hands dirty.

You’re very in tune with the world around you, and remember something better if you have physically touched it.

You’re not one for reading instructions – you’d rather jump in and pull something apart to find out how it works than read the manual.

You communicate well using gestures and body language. If you have a problem, or something is bothering you, you often find that it helps to go for a walk or run.

E: Logically Smart (Mathematical)

You excel at any task that involves numbers, figures and patterns. You’re incredibly logical, and solve problems systematically using mathematical reasoning.

You’re incredibly organised, and often create to-do lists, itineraries and agendas. When creating an argument, you like to back it up with figures and statistics.

You’re happy setting numerical targets and tracking your progression. You often find yourself creating procedures for future use.

F: Socially Smart (Interpersonal)

You’re a mentor to others, working well with people and in teams.

People listen and come to you for advice, and you tend to pick up on their feelings, moods and emotions quickly.

You enjoy one-on-one or group brainstorming sessions, where you bounce ideas off other people.

You prefer social activities over lone ones, and enjoy collaborative games.

G: Solitary Smart (Intrapersonal)

This is normally a secondary learning style that helps you be successful in other areas.

You tend to be quite private, independent and self-aware. You are very comfortable with yourself, spending a lot of time alone, focusing on self-analysis and reflection.

You probably attend self-development workshops, and may read self-help books to gain a better understanding of your own thoughts and feelings.  In fact, you often chat away to yourself.

You like to set personal goals and targets, and prefer working in a quiet atmosphere.
