FOOD lover David Sidwell is the latest Business Idol entrant with his company Choc ‘n’ Hog Catering, based in Hartlebury.

He guarantees events will sizzle with a range of fun food from chocolate or champagne fountains to pig roasts, barbecues, licensed bars, candy floss and ice cream.

David trained as a chef at Worcester College and is one of the first people in the country to complete the Foundation Degree in Culinary Arts.

He also works with the college supporting catering students.

David is building his business following illness, during which time he restored a classic 1969 Bedford ice cream van. He has found support from local business people invaluable in making contacts and expanding the events he caters for.

From small family gatherings to weddings, charity events and festivals the use of good quality ingredients is important to David.

“We take pride in using local produce and suppliers as much as possible,” he told The Shuttle.

If he won the Business Idol competition, David would like to have his own industrial kitchen to prepare buffet lunches for conference centres and corporate events. Future plans include cooking giant pans of paella and curry.

JOIN THE CLUB Business Idol is being run by the Kidderminster-based Big Breakfast Club in association with The Shuttle.

The first Idol competition, staged last year, was such a success that this year it has been extended to include the Stourbridge area, with reports appearing in our sister paper, the Stourbridge News.

Entrants will also have the benefit of being mentioned on the two newspapers’ respective websites.

As well as the chance to win the cash, the winner will receive a year’s free membership of the Breakfast Club and be offered business advice reckoned to be worth over £2,500.

Runners-up at a grand final to be held in the summer will receive three months’ membership.

The club are a group of business men and women who meet at 7am every Tuesday at La Brasserie, Kidderminster, to swap ideas, contacts and contracts, while enjoying a good breakfast.

There are no joining fees, no paid staff and they find that their relaxed approach works better than many larger and more anonymous breakfast clubs.

If you are interested in joining, call David Chill, on 01905 776730.
